Pro scene and competitions are a waste of money and there are no quantifiable benefits from hosting or sponsoring them.
Blizzard figured this out a long time ago and disbanded all their eports initiatives. MS is probably coming to the same realization. Especially post-covid.
The problem...
I like Hera. But yeah dominating the top spot is as boring as when Viper was doing it. Except that Viper has more fanboys which at the time helped take edge of shitty finals.
It's sad to see but nobody else cares as much about AoE2 and winning than Hera does. And I can't blame them...it's like Hera has gone insane mode and nobody has the motivation or energy to match him.
As a very casual tournament observer, I find the HC format a complete nightmare. It's just too abstract. I'm too busy with life now and can't sit in front of my PC for hours in order to absorb who is who and who did what in previous rounds. I just don't have the capacity to get invested into...
Yeah I think we peaked during covid. It was a stroke of pure luck that DE came out just before covid hit and then it was also a stroke of luck that the competitive scene was very balanced across the board. Then the sponsorships from RedBull and many other exciting tournaments. That was it...
That's an interesting perspective and I'm inclined to agree. Maybe not in absolutely every situation as some civs could be designed in a super unique way. But generally speaking yes.
I liked Daut's idea which was to add a cost (+ research time) to their ability to convert enemy units. Just like there's a cost and research time before they can convert buildings or siege units.
I think it makes sense. Make it available to all civs and make the cost minimal like 50 or 100...
I go to the gym. The reason I go is because I noticed definite improvements in nearly all facets of my life. For example my allergies have basically subsided once I started going regularly. I'm more flexible and feel less pain in my lower back (a problem area for me). Plus as I age it's...
It's not surprising this happened.
On the one hand you have Grathwrang himself a polarizing figure and often unstable person. But he has been trying to improve and also has contributed to the community so he's not all bad.
On the other hand you have reddit mods who are power hungry and...
Not sure where I read it, but someone brought up a good idea of mixing up the types of arabia maps. So one very open arabia, one very closed, one with some ponds (and fish) and others that are super hilly and others that are really flat. Something to think about maybe for the next KOTD.
As...
Hera played amazingly well. What I noticed is how focused he remained even when up 4-0. You'd think he would pick a lower tier civ, nope he brings out the best civ in the game and is ready to stomp.
That's the killer instinct you need at this level. No mind games, no cute tricks, just stomp.
