Do you not think players wondering who is providing the money (and quite a significant sum) is only natural? If they invest weeks training for this event and then an unknown investor just decides to pull out it's a complete waste of the time they had...
I think this is one of the main things that is lacking right now is the direct accessibility of some of the other features of aoe2 DE. I wish quickplay / ranked were all in the same menu area rather than one having a completely different UI in a different area. Often i just completely forget...

try out custom scenarios
try out multiplayer CS (CBA etc)
pick a strategy you rly like and do just that (there was a period where I did only forwards for a week and i lost 3/4 games but i rly enjoyed it)
try EW
make your own scenarios
ban arabia and play only arena
play tgs
