Random Aoezone posts from years ago have just some absolutely amazing bits of information of aoe2 history. That random thread about a Tim and Viper drama ended up discussing a major tournament final that took 30 hours due to lag and was decided by admin win (With one commentator claiming...
Winning every event for one year =/= GOAT status, it's undisputed world #1 status, not GOAT status. To be a GOAT requires this sort of winning for an immense amount of time, a year is too much of a minute timeframe. Players are technically better now than they were back during 2013-2020 sure...
Some more teamgame tournaments would be great! 1V1 tournaments are really good, however there just haven't been many teamgame tournaments recently and we need to have a few more teamgame tournaments to balance out the amount of 1v1 tournaments there are.
IMO Arabia should be played in a set for any major tournament (unless its a specific map tournament such as a water map tournament, ect), it is *the* Age of Empires 1v1 map. As a viewer I want to watch pro players playing the same maps as us intermediate or low level players play on the ladder...
I find it strange people make the argument that TG tournaments get less viewers than 1v1, how many S tier teamgame tournaments have there been to make that comparison? Perhaps if there were a teamgame tournament with a higher prizepool there might be more interest and viewers?
Personally as a viewer, as much as I despise commercialisation of everything, I am somewhat okay with most advertisements if they aren't particularly too intrusive. I think some tournaments back before DE actually had that style of sponsorship. There is definitely a line that shouldn't be...
The genius of aoe2 is that most civilisations are mostly the same in terms of units and play basically the same mechanically. It makes it so much more possible to understand the game and to think of strategies in real time when most civilisations are generally symmetrical. The more aoe2 goes in...
Ignoring the politics around this and the arguments about the modern day CCP or whatever, this is just a distortion of history. The communists were very much part of the Chinese war effort during WW2 also the KMT were absolutely not any sort of liberal government (the civil war with the CCP...
Viewer numbers for major tournaments are still way higher than pre-pandemic. RBW:L had a peak viewership over 70,000. No AOE2 tournament even got over 10,000 peak viewers until one of the NAC's in 2018 or 2019. Why do you think viewer numbers are back to 2016 levels? Do you have any evidence of...
I wonder if the people complaining about the B-stream can recall the Cologne LAN circa 2017, where IIRC the final had to be a bo3 because of time restraints. I would much rather two simultaneous steams than the amount of games being reduced. A B-stream is an imperfect solution, however it is a...
It's great to see top level AOE2 have a league event, regular tournaments are great, however a league is great at ensuring more regular high level competition over a span of time. It's also great to see a tournament with a relegation/promotion system, I find promotion/relegation really...
That is one of the greatest finals I have ever seen in AOE2 - Lierey vs Viper, a classic matchup of two of the strongest in the world going down to the wire with an amazing recovery from Viper after a late castle age in the final game.
As someone who enjoys playing both Arabias, I really hope they have include both the new Arabia and the previous Arabia generation in the map pool soon.
This situation is what happens when tournaments try to pack all the games into a few weekends. The aoe2 scene is still mostly amateur and semi professional, you can't expect people who don't play the game for a living to be able to adhere to such a strict schedule.
It wasn't Chrazinis fault...
I like the new Arabia map generation, even if sometimes it is a bit too unwallable and leads to archer/infantry civilizations being unable to fight again cavalry civilizations, although I also miss the old Arabia generation as it is an interesting map just with a slightly different skill set. I...
