It feels like no Feudal unit can even come close to compete with them and they are much better then Knights/Light cav against spears and at raiding vills.

If you could actually read and understand a sentence then you would know that the comparison is between currant and old Arabia, not Arabia and maps that look the exact same every time.
Macro is by far the hardest in my opinion, having to keep 7+ things in mind and exciting them in a timely fashion is not at all easy.
With game knowledge all you really need to know is what unit is good against what and maybe a somewhat accurate knowledge of the technology tree for your civ.
The current strategy of adding more and more new civs to the game doesn't work anymore. There is diminishing return if you add 4 civs to a 20 civ game that is a huge change if you do it to a 48 civ game less so.

Just to be clear death of hype does not mean death of game but more of a return to "normal". Age2 is obviously still a very popular game and will be for a very long time. We outlived WC3 and SC2 for a reason.
Your own link shows that it has gone down. The peek was 2021 covid winter but even 2020 winter had a peek 5k higher then this winter. But it does look to be connected to covid after looking at it again.
