I agree they should consider these for the future, but it wouldn't be fair to impose these after the fact. Since they had only advised the players of the existing 4 tiebreakers, coin flip was the fairest solution.
Hey check this out, we have a series with 4 possible results:
Liereyy 2 - 1 JorDan
Liereyy 2 - 0 JorDan
JorDan 2 - 1 Liereyy
JorDan 2 - 0 Liereyy
3 of those trigger an unsolvable tie
I know tiebreakers have been figured out at this point (coin toss for seeding and game for the playoff spot?)...
I have seen someone suggest true ranking, but I don't think us plebs know
I made a thread about it in hopes admin would figure something out, if they haven't already. So... hopefully they did, and hopefully it's a game and not some true ranking bs.
That's why I said "unless my unsolvable tie happens"
I am aware of that draw (although I mistyped above, it involves a Hera win, not a Hera loss, so it isn't as crazy as I thought).
There is a potential unsolvable tie between him and Villese if Liereyy loses and MbL loses 0-2, but it's fairly improbable... And it only matters if Hera also wins, otherwise it's a tie for 7 not 8
There is literally no way to do a Swiss where head-to-head resolves before some other mechanism, like Buchholz. Even ignoring possible head-to-head triangles, you have all kinds of unrelated head to heads between 6 players with the same records. You need a way to rank players with the same...
TaToH just needs Hera or Liereyy to win to ensure he is at least tied with Villese for Buchholz. Since TaToH owns the head to head, the tie is good enough to advance.
MbL is now a lock.
Unless my unsolvable tie happens, but let's just cross fingers. For the curious, that tie is induced by MbL losing 0-2, Capoch beating Hera, and Jordan beating Liereyy.
That's definitely a school of thought, but practically the opposite of the Swiss, which basically considers all players as tied at every stage, and the goal is to progressively induce conditions that will break ties (first with match wins, then buchholz, and so forth)
I learned recently that if your tongue doesn't rest at the roof of your mouth you should consult a therapist, as it's connected to a host of other issues. It has caused me a significant amount of distress.
Great, now I'm thinking about caster quirks and my tongue placement...
That would be an interesting wrinkle, but since you would have to set the pairings somehow I think you would find it is still subject to the same complaints you have with the Swiss.
No, that scenario is not possible. Vinchester can not go in at MbL's expense (because Vinch win knocks TaToH out).
Villese can no longer qualify at MbL's expense. Worst case for MbL, they are locked in an unsolvable tie.
AoE2 did not invent Swiss with Buchholz. I'm curious what you think is a better way to run a tournament with 14 players.
"If he lost in a different order", e.g. if he won his first game against Vinchester, who will finish 2-2 at best. That loss should hurt him; it's not a good loss. You suggest...
No, it's why this system is so good. In no world should beating Barles and dogao be worth the same as beating Nicov and TaToH. Similarly, losing to a really strong opponent (Jordan) shouldn't be punished like losing to a lower performing opponent (Vinchester).
It's a really good system where 3...
That map loss really hurts Villese. His path forward is as follows, if he somehow wins 2-1:
So Villese has two chances with a 2-1 over Vinch:
Hera + Liereyy lose
Liereyy loses and MbL loses 2-0. This creates an unsolvable tie between Villese and MbL.
