It's one of the most glaring balance issues in the game.
I think it'd be fun to decrease their cost a bit, dramatically reduce training time, increase their general damage, and make them even less accurate, but have "missed" shots deal full damage. Make them feel like arambai once you have a...
Minimal. I'd say that the most impactful luck factor apart from civ selection is a scout fight, but that requires mutual consent. Maps are now so finely tuned and tested that some tournaments have begun removing restarts.
I'm not a fan of DM for a variety of reasons, but this is just clownish behavior from the developers.
If it's a playerbase issue, DM just held a major tournament to attract new players.
If they're truly concerned about the "multiplayer experience", there are at least a dozen glaring issues...
I agree with almost all of what you wrote, but it's an exercise in futility to present detailed solutions until the devs indicate any willingness to even acknowledge that a problem exists to begin with.
I really don't like DE's color contrast and heraldry. I'm not even colorblind, and I still can't easily distinguish ownership with plenty of unit and color combinations. I think mangonels are especially bad, even with team colors.
Which is itself quite laughable. Couldn't implement basic enforcement of decorum even if they wanted to because the game is so unstable.
I really hope this is poorly delivered sarcasm. People like you are making everyone who wants to play on the ranked ladder waste their time in the already...
Or rushing it down with vills and M@A.
Or defending with archers.
Or walling and trying FC.
Or walling and countering.
Or scouting neutral res and dispersing eco.
Think outside the arena.
The first steppe is to make them exclusive with either the knight line or the scout line. Maybe both?
Once that decision is made, they can be balanced accordingly. Compared to the knight, they should be distinguished by being weaker, faster, and cheaper, with the potential to snowball in a mass...

All hail Rubenstock, our Patron Saint of Creative Gameplay.
Agree 100%. I'd also like to see the "regional" stable units (elephants, lancers, camels) become mostly exclusive with knights. Indians are the only non-American civ that doesn't have knights at the stable. Every steppe civ has light cav, knights, camels, and lancers available, which is severe...
I don't know how severe it was for Daniel, but I have seen objectively unplayable "lag" before, which is what he seems to be alluding to with "queuing three villagers".
When your game is repetitively desyncing from the server for 5 or 10 or 20 second intervals, it's not even worth playing out...
At least one person did exactly that this year.
If you're referring to microtransaction crowdfunding, there are plenty of reasons not to bother setting up such a system; the most important being that contributing in proportion to subs already serves the purpose without any additional effort on...
