Hey we have an ADP thing and so instead of bitching about it I used it to have some fun.
An alien (vogon destructor fleet) comes down and threatens the Earth with destruction unless the AOE2 gods balance the following list of people into the most EVEN four teams of three players. These teams will then play a 3v3 tournament to satisfy the aliens curiosity of how a not insignificant segment of humans spend their time. It assumes that the alien has brought hitchhikers guide to the galaxy Babel Fish has been developed and there is no barrier of language between any of the players, and that due to the shock of aliens and impending doom all players forgot any learning curve/history of playing together immediately. It's completely irrelevant for this very serious and realistic scenario.
The List
Daut
Jordan
Viper
Tatoh
Nicov
Hera
MBL
Lierrey
Mr. Yo
Villese
ACCM
Vinchester
My Teams
Team 1 (ADP Player Ranking AVG: 5.67 AVG. S Tier Ranking: 5.33)
1. The Viper
2. Jordan
3. Villese
Team 2 (ADP Player Ranking AVG: 4.33 AVG. S Tier Ranking: 4.67)
1. Lierrey
2. Tatoh
3. Vinchester
Team 3 (ADP Player Ranking AVG: 11.67 AVG. S Tier Ranking: 10.33
1. Hera
2. MBL
3. ACCM
Team 4 (ADP Player Ranking AVG: 7.67 AVG. S Tier Ranking: 7.00)
1. Mr. Yo
2. Daut
3. Nicov
Rationale: I ranked the players for the most part then went some good ol' gut'.
I think all but Mr. Yo has the most solid foundation for #1, an argument could be made for Daut instead. Luckily for Team 4, I decided to put the next best player right there, so it all works out. I have Jordan/MBL/Dorito next, which makes the decision of where to place each difficult. Lierrey is probably the best flank player in the game for a team game tournament. Archer play is unquestionably the best. Can make an even fight look unfair and snowball archer into cbow into a death spiral. Jordan is up and down. Some tournaments he is on fire and can't be stopped, others he is left wanting. MBL is solid but suffers as well. It's likely even impending annihilation of the planet might not have him check the maps or practice before hand, but nonetheless his booming and ability to wall into skirm defence is vaunted and valued for a team where Hera is likely to spam scouts to his hearts content. However, this is where I also make another switch. On a good day though Tatoh can beat both. I give the edge to Tatoh over Jordan and MBL over Tatoh. After settling for Jordan, Viper is also given Villese to round out the top 3 -- a very potent bunch. Similarly, Team 2 has quite a bit of shenanigans up their sleeve. One could argue that they might suffer from a lack of dominant pocket play, but this team has I think the best flank possibilities/wildcard play with the unruly Vinch to round them out. Team 3 is a familiar bunch. Sometimes that's just the way the cookie crumbles. Based on tournament standings you could argue Nicov/ACCM either way -- and Nicov is playing very well right now.
Some caveats -- most of these picks are made based on 1v1 feelings, but obligatory lack of clarification of whether this is land maps, water maps, et al. Left intentionally vague because aliens.
Some thoughts: I think Team 3 slaps -- but the rankings don't. I have a feeling these rankings will change over the next year to better give team 3 more creedance but they are the worst team assembled according to ADP, and it's not even close.
R1 T1 VS T4
I think it's close. Very close. The Viper comes away with it with a strong showing from Villese and Jordan.
T1 Wins
T2 vs T3
Despite the rankings, I think the booming and adaptability of T3 overcome Lierrey and Tatoh's insane archer flank games. MBL plays pocket to perfection as ACCM and Hera run wild over the opposition.
T3 Wins
Finals:
I think I still have T1 winning it all -- but an epic series. Coffee is drank. Insane/excellent play from both sides then ends in G21 that satiates the aliens, spares the planet.
