The last days there were two threads that had the broader topic of racism inside this community.
Namely these both:
https://www.aoezone.net/threads/my-reply-to-gabis-thread.177905/
https://www.aoezone.net/threads/coi...-because-they-saw-brazilian-nicknames.177902/
Both topics got closed relatively fast.
Where is the problem?
The basic problem is that in many of the so-called "drama" topics a real **** show is put on and tolerated for hundreds of posts (Chrazini's topic as a current example, but also many others). But when it comes to a topic that concerns this community, really affects all people here and is as deep-seated as internalised and structural racism or misogyny, these topics are very quickly closed, even though a critical discussion takes place. That is a problem.
The problem is not only that this prevents critical discussion in the community, but that it indirectly enables racism because far-right talking points cannot be contradicted and when they are contradicted the topic is simply closed because AoEZone wants to be apolitical.
The pure acceptance of this unfortunately carries the danger that the discourse will continue to shift (this is also what many on the political right are doing worldwide at the moment) and that, on the one hand, criticism of such actions will be delegitimised and, on the other hand, racism and the reproduction of racist stereotypes will once again be legitimised and made socially acceptable. In my opinion, this is not a viable path.
AoEZone is not apolitical and cannot be in a community where racism, nationalism and misogyny is so internalised. To see oneself as apolitical also means to close one's eyes and to be ignorant of what people in this community endure and live through.
Every Twitch moderator can probably tell you a thing or two about how much racism and misogyny exists in the community and how much work goes on behind the scenes to keep this community friendly and open for new people.
And then you read on AoEZone some nonsense like "reverse racism" (racism against whites) exists and that this bullshit even gets a like by the most famous content creator that says his chat should stay unpolitical. In these threads victims of racism in the community are denied that there is a problem at all and they shouldn't be like that. They are probably to blame for it themselves. Just because the community here is very male-dominated doesn't mean that you should or can behave like a Neanderthal towards your fellow human beings.
So what am I trying to say?
I want to address the victims of racism and misogyny in this community, because those are the people we should be listening to.
Don't let the people who just want to hurt you get you down. There are many great people in this community who will listen to you, empathise and stand by your side when the going gets tough.
You are not alone and we support you.
Take care and much love.
