Big new Event: Water madness
Disclaimer: I am sure the graphic team can make awesome graphics in no time
So let's don't hesitate and just hear me out:
Water balance
Mangonel Ship (i won't go into detail as everything is said in the link, its called Carrack and Heavy Carrack with the feudal variants name potentially being "Carrack raft"), high pierce damage.
Builder Ship (100w)
Builder Ship builds Sea walls / gates and Sea Towers very impractical but the option is there. Available in Dark Age (to prepare a Sea Tower rush), all 3 buildings already exist within the game.
- cost 4 wood per Wall, 40 per Gate
- Tower costs 125w and 50s (Sea towers have bonus vs ships)
- Builder ship can also repair ships for half the normal resources (or none resources if needed for balance aspects)
- Build Fishtraps at x3 the speed compared to Fishing Ships
- Automatically helps to build (destroyed) Fish Traps when idle
- Fishing traps build with the help of Builderships contain 200 more Food
Boarding Ship:
Some monk ship (well already used to exist too), well, of course, there is no monk on it, but its rather a (fast) boarding ship with 1 Range that capture and board enemy ships after 4-6 ingame seconds (reduced to 3-5 seconds with the "Grappling" tech, all because we love Conversion RNG).
- high melee armor,
- 2 Pierce Armor
- Sends out little ships to enemy ships periodically without a soldier spawning as seen in the clip.
- Available in Castle Age,
- Name would probably be "Boarding Ship" with Imp Version either having a "Heavy" or "Elite" in front, or the historians at MS come up with a better idea.
- Low HP
- should get hard countered by Galleys and Demos
- Great vs Carracks and Fireships
- Historically the name "Cog" or "War Cog" would be more accurate probably.
- Units that get boarded have 3 times less movement speed (and 0 after Grappling tech)
Hulk:
A gunpowder throwing ship available in Imperial Age (Japanese used this technic)
- benefits from Blacksmith upgrade (fledging, etc.)
- Big melee damage,
- Projectile explodes upon landing
- 4 range
- slower than Galleys
- requires Chemistry.
- Counter Fire- and Boarding ships and Demolition ship, if used in large quantities.
- Low accuracy on range (similar to Hand Cannoneer)
- Can destroy Trees
Generic changes:
(Elite) Cannon Galleon's projectiles have the speed of Bombard Cannon or Turtle ship projectile, prefer attacking enemy units over buildings.
Accuracy decreases with range (except when attacking buildings)
Spanish Civ bonus replaced with Free Careening?
Heavy Demos can destroy trees in a large radius
Spearman line loses bonus vs Ships as this isnt intentional (Spearmen did damage vs ships because camels previously had the ship armor class, since AK camels have their own armor class but the bonus vs ship remained)
New Building:
Shipyard
A Shipyard is a reverse dock, build on land that has a connection to water, as opposed to docks which are built on water with connection to land. The building itself has a little water channel in which Ships (theoretically) could pass through, In the first building graphics the ground gets dug out and slowly gets filled with water until the building is finished (requires 4 rotations of the buildings)
- Costs 125 wood
- Can research:
Gillnets, Careening & Dry Dock, War Galley (and its upgrade of Carrack), Fast Fire ships, Heavy Demo ship, Elite Boarding Ship, Heavy Hulk, Heavy Carrack, Elite Cannon Galleon,
Grappling Hooks (reduces Boarding rate of Boarding ships, disables movement of ship that gets boarded),
Barges (Allows Boarding ships to convert Shipyards, Docks and other coast near buildings within their range, again sending out those ships periodically until the conversion is done)
and Carpentry (Which allows Shipyards to heal Ships faster)
- Optionally Heated shot could also be moved there to give space to a new University tech (more on that later)
- Can Garrison up to 10 ships (including Fishing ships, Ships get "repaired" = healed)
Dock:
Dock can train all ships, including Fishing ships, can't research anything, can queue up Fish Traps and Auto Fish Traps as usual (Requiring 14 slots with 1 UU ship; the Arrow would need to be gone)
All Naval Techs at the Shipyard require 13 slots (14 with Heated shot)
With that upgrade, we could get rid of the Second Page of the Dock, as there are 14 slots max for each building
Optional: Up to 5 Archers can now board Galleys and increase the number of arrows shot, as with transport ships they die when the ship sinks.
Can be unloaded like with Transport ships
Turtle ship lose Accuracy to 90%
Optional University changes:
New Tech (Name is a task for the historians at MS) at university available in Imp, instead of Heated Shot
Increase Accuracy of Gunpowder Units to 100% (Hand Cannoneer, Bombard Cannon, Turtle ship, Jannisaries, Organ Guns, Conquistadors, Hulks and Cannon Galleons)
Heated Shot moved to Shipyard
Event Map Rotation, probably for 2 weeks, or one:
Black Forest replaced with Mangrove Jungle
Nomad (which will be in the rotation) replaced with Water Nomad
Parts of Arena's middle gets replaced with Shallows, Azure
Arabia, well I don't think you will dare to change that map for one map rotation, but if you dare you will come up with something.
Socotra for the first time will have a connection to the waters outside (because this map wasn't crazy enough already)
And whatever that map is called:
Another Event Items
A lot of useless Profile Icons and other Cosmetics
A new (water-based) Event Scenario
A new Quest series
Event Mods!
Probably some Twitch Event (like on Battle Royal)
Probably Balance Changes (nerf Water bonuses and buff the land bonuses of water civs, reduce the essentialness of Shipwright), so we have a better variety than just 7 civs. With the new ship that don't require Bracer this certainly is the idea behind all of this.
One new water civ?
And before Tarsiz asks me how much water games I play:
Well none on DE, DE water is just boring and disgusting
If devs would care they will be done in Late Spring / Early Summer next year (I will be there)
