This thread reminds me that probably the biggest "crybabies" are privileged (therefore mostly white and not affected by racism) men who are encouraged by external circumstances to reflect on their privileges and to refine or change ways of using languages that were shaped by the patriarchate. If you see it from this perspective, it's actually a good show and pretty laughable. ;-)

Amen to this! If there are particularly "bad" phrases or words being overused they should be weeded out. Personally I consider casual cursing to be the worst. However, reta rded and g ay used as banter do not seem harsh or discriminatory. But admittedly I don't use the words themselves knowing that a lot of people are combative about the terms. So I'd say people thinking about their word choice a bit more is a good idea.Thank you to those people who have engaged constructively and supportively in this thread, it reassures me that the community here is largely a really good one to be part of.
A couple of points I would like to address:
1) Freedom of speech is not freedom from consequences. If you use abusive, harmful language, don't be surprised if people then call you out for it. If people are upset about the language you are using, there's usually good reason for it. Please try and listen and learn, as a few people in this thread have said they did, it will make everybody happier in the long run.
2) There's a massive difference between using strong language (i.e. swearing) and using language to belittle marginalised communities (such as the disabled, LGBTQ+, working-class etc.). Please don't equate the two. I know full well when I go to many streams that people will swear and have fun with their friends and teammates in a quite rough and ready manner - that is not what I'm calling out. I'm calling out the people who throw slurs around.
3) Trying to argue that 're ta rd ed' is just like saying that something/someone is dumb is a really weak argument. English is my native language. That word carries a very harsh and nasty meaning. It is and has been used to belittle people with mental disabilities for many years. Yes, some words shift in meaning and tone over time, or have multiple meanings, some of which may be innocent (e.g. fag in Britain means a cigarette, compared to its American use as a slur). This word is still outright abusive, though.
Finally, I'm not arguing for censorship. I'm asking people to take a little bit of time to consider the words they choose to use. As a few people have pointed out, the aim is to make the community more accessible, to ensure people are able to enjoy the game to its maximum potential in whatever capacity (playing or watching), and to keep the community as open as it can be.
Thats just simonsanone style labelling at its best, calling people trolls / crybabbies / etc whenever he sees others having different opinion than his 11111111) That statement isn't only just plain stupid but also extremely dangerous.
2) You obviously are an ignorant. I'm not going to start with the oppression, discrimination and enslavement my people have seen in the past half a millennia while being "privileged white men". I'm just going to say this generalization is upsetting and unjust.
Sorry but from my point of view there isn't that much difference between you and a racist.
Offtopic, there was a hong kong forum with ridiculous yet hilarious filters. On a side note, I think it hampers communication to use "*" to replace words that are considered unacceptable. @pkz imo it's best for changes to language to come from users rather than the platform. Consider a non-native speaker seeing "*****" and not knowing that a person called himself an i diot. I'm pretty sure, living in the us, that nobody is actually insulted by being called an ***** as well, especially if it's done in good humor.

If you want to dig deeper into the topic, the keyword is 'critical whiteness'.
We weren't chosen by God and bestowed great wealth and prosperity out of nowhere, we worked our way up,

None of that is acceptable and should be targeted by any decent human being and upright member of this community. Staff and moderators of this forum should not frown on using drastic measures to prevent such stuff and the community should speak up if such behavior takes place on other platforms. Streamers who believe in this being okay in their chat should face the consequence of suspension and ban according to the ToS enforced on them when reported accordingly.

So if someone deny existence of white privilege then he should be banned on AoE community forum, is that right? The vast majority of this platform is at least in their mid twenties. If you have not learnt it by now, you do not belong here. The thread already showed you have nothing to offer but strawmans. The nerve to discuss the mere existence of white privilege to defend racial slurs...
This is incredibly wrong and ignorant. For your information white privilege doesn't mean that being white exempts you from facing challenges and hardnesses, but at least you never face additional challenges due to the color of your skin. A white poor in the US will probably have a much shittier life than a rich black, but at least they don't need to worry as much about being killed by the police if they are pulled over in the same situation. That is white privilege.White privilege is a myth. Peoples of other races have just the same, rights, opportunities and challenges as Whites. If anything they are more privileged with systems in place for them like affirmative action
And now I somehow remembered thisSo if someone deny existence of white privilege then he should be banned on AoE community forum, is that right?
