Was wondering how this topic got a bit more replies than what seemed normal, and now it makes it a bit sense from seeing the last page. Some of it feels a little sad, especially if Jordan sees some of the replies.
Money indeed isn't everything but it's practically everything. As an extremely wealthy businessman once said that I'll never forget, "Money is the blood of life and business. Without it, you're dead." I never heard anything like that before I came across it and since then. Money gives you options and if you have enough of it, complete freedom which can be worth the pursuit imo. Not worrying about much of anything is a tremendous blessing, just not at the cost of complete misery perhaps though.
As someone who has been through really bad poverty to the point where you don't have really anything, but has also seen what a millionaire's lifestyle is like with my own eyes when I visited him for awhile many years ago, I'd say there is no such thing as being poor and happy. It's just not possible because I've seen what poverty can do on the negative side to me and others. It's practically a poison, and you can see yourself losing even your best friends if you aren't careful.
The guy I knew when he was alive I believe was happy overall with his life, and probably didn't regret it. He could do many things as he was a multi-millionaire, but there were some really nasty things that came attached. The one big turn off. However rich is always surely better than poverty, and personally I'd choose it every time after knowing what I've experienced.
Well, I would argue there is a very wide gap between bad poverty - which I‘m sorry you had to go through - and multi-millionaire status.
Between those 2 worlds there’s enough room to be financially stable and totally happy even if you can’t afford ferraris and yachts. Especially in western European countries where you have very strong social security protections.
