Not sure if I agree with the premise in general or not but anyway one problem I have with the proposed solutions:
It kills the advantage of proper scouting (and in turn also to hide buildings) if you can build CA in stables/can get bloodlines and husbandry in the archery range.
Of course it's allowed to get your 1v1 rating up after you signed up. Otherwise teams that waited till the last second to sign up would have a lot more time to get higher ratings than a team that signed up immediately. It just makes sense to do the seeding in the end and it's always been that way.
2v2 works really well, we have seen that in Nili's last Clash of the Hippo 2v2 tournament (CotH 5).
I don't think I have seen it being played in a 4v4 yet, but I feel like the maps lends itself better to 2v2s and 3v3s for team games
