The majority of players are below 1300 ELO and this change would give them a better experience overall. I'm sure the solution will be tweaked over time to fit well for everyone.
I've played many lower-ELO team games on Nomad and African Clearing which are ruined by villager fights in minute 1.
At lower ELO, players aren't aware that vill fighting is BM, and definitely not skilled enough to wall in villagers (taking the first hit = 100% loss).

Yeah - and the militia need some micro in dark age... usually at noob level, the drush follows villagers into the TC, or the eco goes titanic behind the drush.
