Obviously using a slightly exaggerated title here, with click baiting being the idea.
Everybody is talking about EW, and they either love it or dislike it. But I fail to see anybody talk about the splitting of the community aspect (which is mostly not a good thing, so I'm a bit worried). When DE came out, DE and Voobly was split. This was a good thing for most, as DE was a major improvement, and pretty much everyone with decent PCs moved over and the game grew substantially. Then they announced quickmatch. It either had to work really well or not at all, or else queue times would be doubled for both. Luckily, it didn't catch on at all (at least in the top 10-20% which is probably around where most of us here are).
Now we have Empire Wars, a new, popular(?) way to queue up for games. Sure, you can double queue for both EW and normal games, but most people might not do that. They might focus on one, and mostly only queue for that which they enjoy the most, just like they will ban maps that they don't prefer to play.
So we have 3 outcomes (none of which seems like a win/win to me):
A: Almost no one will use it, normal system will stay, queue times might be slightly longer as some players still use it.
B: The community will split 50/50. The queue times might be quite a bit longer, and this may cause some players to leave, making the queue times even longer.
You'll have the option to double queue for both, which in this case, it shouldn't affect queue times by much.
Example:
DauT will queue for EW, Mbl will queue for normal, one of them might get an opponent at roughly their level. I think at higher levels, you will pretty much be forced to queue for both to keep queue times roughly the same.
C: Most of the community will start using it, and everybody will be forced to play that or wait forever in queue.
