I figured out a way to permanently block the chat filter!
No more **** ******* *******
No more being unable to update your mods because the chat filter is flagging false positives!
Steps:
>Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
>Open the hosts file with Notepad
>Add a new line at the very end, with the following:
0.0.0.0 text-mod.ageofempires.com
>Save changes
Notes:
>You may need to run Notepad as an administrator to save the changes.
>You are only blocking requests to the chat filter sent by your own machine - other players will still see **** if you say something that gets filtered on their end.
>If another player swears, you will see it - even if they cannot see it themselves.
Enjoy!
UPDATE
As of the new update (July 21), the original method I showed no longer works!
This is because the chat filter now sends requests to
api.ageofempires.com/textmoderation
instead of
text-mod.ageofempires.com
You cannot block specific URLs in the hosts file, only whole domains.
If you want, you can do this:
0.0.0.0 api.ageofempires.com
It will work, HOWEVER, it may also interfere with other functionality. For example, it prevents you from browsing mods on the Age of Empires website and ingame. It may also mess with other things too that I haven't found yet.
If someone has a clever and user-friendly way to block requests to a specific address at a domain, please let us know!
