Because some elements of our government are for all intents and purposes corrupt, awarding these contracts with extreme nepotism. How we have failed to develop the technology & policy for an effective test, trace and isolate system given the hundreds of billions we have lost as a result is beyond me.

Hey. Just to update everyone. I recovered and can resume life as normal again. Only downside is I am more exhausted than usual. Simple tasks like going down stairs or taking out the trash feels like I've run a mile 11 so I'm just getting over the post covid fatigue.
Was a rough 18 days. Couldn't taste. Smell. Had headaches. A temperature. Got quite sick early on but was fine thereafter. Sometimes breathing felt like I was under a pillow but overall wasn't terrible.
I didnt need to go in to hospital but I was told unless I really couldn't breathe then I am basically forced to stay at home even when I had days where it worsened.
Fall puts it right. The UK has the money and power to make an effective test and trace system yet its so flawed. For a country thats supposed to be well off, we were so unprepared in dealing with the situation. Even when we had a second wave (which is where I caught mine), we were less prepared than we were when we had the first wave.
Kinda worries me that compared to less well off countries, the UK is terrible with dealing with the situation. Maybe not as bad as America perhaps but still, it could have been dealt with better. Then again that's what we get for voting in the Tories. Its the truth sadly lol.
Oh well, tis what it is. I recovered so I guess to most people. That's all that matters.
NEW DELHI — Crematories are so full of bodies, it’s as if a war just happened. Fires burn around the clock. Many places are holding mass cremations, dozens at a time, and at night, in certain areas of New Delhi, the sky glows.
Sickness and death are everywhere.

A new variant known here as “the double mutant” may be doing a lot of the damage. The science is still early but from what we know, this variant contains one mutation that may make the virus more contagious and another that may make it partially resistant to vaccines. Doctors are pretty scared. Some we have spoken to said they had been vaccinated twice and still got seriously ill, a very bad sign.
Here we go ...Lockdown is more anoying than taht virus itself
I don't think so.Lockdown is more anoying than taht virus itself
I rly wonder for how long peaple can support this
It is not when you see a loved one dying in a hospital bed, while laying face down. I had couple of friends who regretted a lot after their grandparents died probably due to virus transmitted by them.Lockdown is more anoying than taht virus itself

That reminds me of another case.I don't think so.
During lockdown I started also talking to new people about their experiences, and while it's hardcore mentally to go through this kind of phase and for sure it will also have high impact on future generations in terms of their mental stability, education etc. I need to say, if you talk to a 24-old women, that had Corona in May 2020, she was healthy before and now she can't walk more than 5 stairs without being out of breath - one year later. It's actually something, that makes you prefer the lockdown instead of getting Covid.
The long-term effects on people that already had corona, maybe even asymptomatic cases, I wouldn't underrate - for the overall and long-term health systems, pension systems, etc.
A relative of mine caught the virus on the first wave (had it severe), and has seemingly permanently lost parts of their smell. Not fully but in part, or perhaps overall weakened sensitivity. Same for taste according to them, these senses go hand in hand after all so it makes sense.Around several months ago, a streamer was talking about a friend that got covid and lost all sense of smell and taste. Months later after recovery it was still gone. Scary to imagine never tasting or smelling tbh. He’s probably in the very low percentage of that stuff happening, but no one is free from that imo. Hope he has gotten it back by now, or slowly is.
Gl man, it looks bad over there :SIn India, it is becoming worse day by day. New cases of 360,000 per day
Everyone around is dying as i live in the center of Delhi , afraid to go out nowdays .
In New York during the height of the pandemic, people had to watch their loved ones dying on zoom or facetime because they were not allowed to visit. It was awful. It is not when you see a loved one dying in a hospital bed, while laying face down. I had couple of friends who regretted a lot after their grandparents died probably due to virus transmitted by them.
But Delhi is supposed to be a metropolitan area with the most advanced medical technology in India, no? If it's so bad there, I wonder what catastrophic impact there is in the rural area of India.
