Born in the same country, let them play together. It's also easy to make a clear cut rule for this.
Besides, it's Daut we're talking about!

Well, the precedent is World Cup already made those political decisions, and we just fit those lone wolves into those restrictions, better than we make any incomplete rules that can be exploit.Yes, they set the precedent that it's only a politics decision. If the organisers agree it's good and no more discussion.
United Korea has indeed played toguether in some events. Czechia and Slovakia have chosen themselves to play separately, same as Balkans. catalonia and Basque country don't play because they are vetoed by other federations. Same as Kosovo, which cannot play.
well, very true, didn't check that...@AmazonButterfly Those are all hypotheticals that won't impact this tournament at all. So some 1600 Scottish chap doesn't want to represent the whole of the UK. Who cares? Let him crack on and try and sign up with some other Scottish person. The world is messy and complicated and trying to apply a straitjacket to the Tournament Organisers that require them keeping out top top players is stupid and counterproductive.
I completely agree it makes no sense for Liereyy to team with Jordan. I’m trying more to express the concern around the practical challenges of designing a rule that allows mixed national teams exactly where we want them and nowhere else. The rule Modri wrote would allow that - could it be written better? Sure. But we shouldn’t underestimate the difficulty in writing such a rule without having unintended consequences. The thing is the #2 in Peru is top 300 with a 1900 rating. The #2 in Serbia (and probably Slovenia as well) is 1300 so that's what... Top 6000 in the world? Maybe for Reddit a 1300 player is above average but the truth is that it's nowhere comparable. A 1900 could easily 1v2 13xx players.
It is a very different situation. It wouldn't make any sense to allow Liereyy to team up with Jordan (especially considering there are like 200 german players above 1800, Jordan could surely find a partner...).
Nice try OmegaLULThe problem with nationality based tournament is not limited to players in different nations want to play together. Also I've seen Scottish players don't want to represent UK, Taiwan players don't want to represent China, then why not let all players play in a precedented format and regional restrictions?
Fine, I’ll bite. Modri and Daut are not in the same position as Lierrey etc. They literally were born in the same country, that country just happens not to exist any more. The only other instances of this that could affect this generation would be Czechia / Slovakia. I think there was a break up involving Timor L’Este or something but I doubt that’s relevant here.
this is a huge tournament with lots of money on the line and the admins should allow some flexibility to allow all top players to compete.
That is not possible, multiple teams from a country will face each other in the early rounds (Ro16/RO8) of the finals.
This is right I think. I don't support mixed national teams but I understand the concerns of others, especially pro players who don't want to miss out on a $30,000 because of nationality. If mixed national teams are to be allowed, rather than try to write a rule defining the precise circumstances where this is allowed simply state:Everything is decided by the hosts anyway, rules, settings, everything... So it would seem easier to manually allow exceptions on specific cases rather than trying to come up with a complicated set of rules to allow exactly the cases you want and disallow the rest. Just my two cents anyway.
World cup format doesn't make sense given there are so few decent level aoe players who can be considered for serious tournaments.
2v2 sucks as a former first of all and then we are going to have mismatched teammates because hey now they need to abandon their regular team mates and pull out their passport.
The level of competition and hype will be much better if this was a normal 2v2 competition.
Players can actually team up with whom they play normally.

Even we narrow down to Daut/Modri case (no heart+brazil or liereyy+germany case), we'll still have problems with former CCCP and Czechoslovakia players, and what if other former Yogoslavia teams participate? we got to see Croatia vs Yogoslavia? or CCCP (with baltic players, or whatever name they choose) vs Russia?

btw, Kosovo played World Cup qualifiers despite the opposition of many...
AoElympics just finished which had Nationality restrictions and Euro Rumble had nationality restrictions as well (even though it's not that strict), and how many teamgame tournaments have we had this year? It's limited to Empire Wars Duo, OBNC, Euro Rumble 2020, BoA2 and AoElympics, so with this tournament half of those are nationality restricted. It's not just one tournament every once in a while, it happens at least once every year and with the amount of money that's on the line, more than 60% of this years prize money from TG tournaments is limited to nationality-based teams. It's just one tournament with that format the only of its kind and it happened only 2 years ago the last time. If you absolutely want to see the best teams to compete with the best players you can watch reruns of boa2 or ewd in waiting for the next tg tournament which will very probably not be nationality based. The world cup is not about having the best players and the best teams, it's a core feature of it
LOL, so you'd think they will?Nice try OmegaLUL
Its a team tournament. The participants that in the end received money were the team captains distributing money to their players in any manner they agreed on. And not he majority of brackets were TG :D 63 bracket 27 1v1 or something.Euro Rumble was definitely not nationality restricted.
Ok for aoelympics, however the majority of the brackets were 1v1, so plenty of room for top players to sign up if they wanted. Not sure you can count all of aoelympics prizemoney as only tg prizemoney.
i p̂robably should have checked that first hahaAnd not he majority of brackets were TG :D 63 bracket 27 1v1 or something.
Just because they were a lot less strict with their restrictions doesn't mean there were no restrictions. Perhaps not based on nationality, but based on geography.Euro Rumble was definitely not nationality restricted.
As robchang already mentioned, the majority of the brackets were TG. I also didn't take all of the prizemoney as TG prizemoney, but the most you could earn is ~$525 with the current standings and that would require winning 4 1v1 brackets, earning 6th place. If you take those 525 dollars away and take the money from the Euro Rumble away as well, there's still over 60% of the total TG prizemoney that goes to nationality restricted tournaments.Ok for aoelympics, however the majority of the brackets were 1v1, so plenty of room for top players to sign up if they wanted. Not sure you can count all of aoelympics prizemoney as only tg prizemoney.
The restrictions they had might have been loosely country based, but it's the same debate we are having here where such thing is described as "not country based" by everyone in the debate. So, in this particular case, it should be described as not country/nationality based either.Just because they were a lot less strict with their restrictions doesn't mean there were no restrictions. Perhaps not based on nationality, but based on geography.
I care very little too tbh, but if you want to organise a nationality based event, make it really a nationality based event and not a half hearted nationality based but actually not really anybody can form the team they want event.I personally care very little for national events
