Players: Notable players of 2018 and some new players that could break into top 10/20 in 2019.
Teams: The landscape of teams/clans. (Maybe this could be part of ECL/BOA). So, many team based tournaments this year compared to last year IIRC.
This is not a valid example. People did know who was playing (in total, I mean) and this made them watch the tournament. Noone would have cared about watching Hidden Cup with some random 1600 players (although I'm sure some people would have still watched T90 just for the sake of spamming "NEXT GAME FOREST NOTHING" in chat...)Hidden Cup being an example where even though pro-players were playing, we didn’t know who they were, so viewership wasn’t completely because of them.
The intrigue of a novel tournament probably also helped garner interest. Just imagine next year if T90 mixes in a few unknowns and tells no-one until its done. Anyways I get what you're saying, I was just trying too hard to fit Hidden Cup in my narrative.+1
Small correction:

I think boA isn't needed to be talked about it's to long ago. I'd rather see some discussion about ECL and Kotd2 and Nac2 as they are upcoming events
